And afterwards —perhaps most of all afterwards— I shall love you,
and one day we shall have a real, all-embracing explanation, and then
perhaps we shall somehow fit together, you and I, and turn ourselves in
such a way that we form one pattern, and solve the puzzle: draw a line
from point A to point B without looking, or, without lifting the pencil
or in some other way. We shall connect the points, draw the line, and
you and I shall form that unique design for which I yearn

People come, people go – they’ll drift in and out of your life,
almost like characters in a favorite book. When you finally close the
cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with
another book, complete with new characters and adventures. Then you find
yourself focusing on the new ones, not the ones from the past

It’s a strange thing, how you can love somebody, how you can be all
eaten up inside with needing them—and they simply don’t need you. That’s
all there is to it, and neither of you can do anything about it. And
they’ll be the same way with someone else, and someone else will be the
same way about you and it goes on and on—this desperate need—and only
once in a rare million do the same two people need each other
